To begin with, Marco Maldonado has won an Ariel Award for Best Visual Effects for Rodrigo Prieto’s Pedro Páramo on Netflix. And now we’re thrilled to have his talent and experience at BOT VFX as Visual Effects Supervisor. He joins our Executive Sales team in Los Angeles.
A little bit on Marco’s credits: he supervised VFX on David Fincher’s Gone Girl and Extraction 2, and was on-set supervisor on Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma. He also served as Second Unit VFX Supervisor on Terminator: Dark Fate.
Now, let’s rewind four decades. (Yes, four decades!)
In 1985, Marco was a model maker at R/Greenberg Associates in New York. Then came an opportunity on Predator (1987) that gave him his first real look at feature filmmaking. He was hooked on the place where photography, technology and storytelling collide.
He spent years as a camera assistant and motion control operator, then landed at Digital Domain, where he worked on Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, TRON: Legacy and The Social Network. Benjamin Button and The Social Network showed him how far facial de-aging could go in service of a story. The work kept pulling him onto location, which led to on-set visual effects supervision.
Marco’s philosophy is simple: the technology should disappear, so the artistry and the story can shine.
“Marco brings decades of experience and a deep understanding of both traditional and emerging VFX tools. Having a VFX Supervisor of his caliber guiding our artists raises the bar for every project we take on. We’re incredibly proud to have him onboard,” said Hitesh Shah, Founder & Chairman, BOT VFX.
