Katie Adams Wells left Ohio for California with a simple plan: work with the best in the business. And truly, she did!
Her early commercial work had her producing for Ridley Scott, David Lynch and Joe Pytka. She then joined Propaganda Films as an Executive Producer, representing David Kellogg, Michael Bay and Antoine Fuqua. Along the way, curiosity and a knack for problem-solving pulled her into visual effects. She joined Digital Domain as Director of Commercial Production, and then there was no looking back.
From there, she built studios, quite literally. At 525 Studios, she guided the shift from post-house to full-service VFX studio. She founded Creo Collective, where as Managing Director she built a nimble VFX boutique for fast-moving productions. At The FX Cartel, she helped pioneer a boutique vendor model that used Canadian tax incentives to deliver cost-effective VFX on films like Stay, Cursed, Stranger Than Fiction, Across the Universe and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.
She has also been on the production side, as VFX Producer on Immortals, Riddick and Jesus Henry Christ. More recently, she served as Executive Producer at PROOF, Global Executive Producer for BUF Paris/Montreal, and Director of New Business at Distillery VFX. The thread through it all is connecting filmmakers with the right creative teams, and building pipelines that support both innovation and execution.
Outside work, Katie volunteers with the Pasadena Humane Society, helping animals find their forever homes, and supports native plant restoration in the Altadena burn areas.
“Katie understands exactly what filmmakers need from a creative partner, because she’s spent a career being that partner,” said Hitesh Shah, Founder & Chairman, BOT VFX. “Her instinct for connecting the right teams with the right projects will make BOT even stronger for our clients.”
