Gouri began his VFX career at Frameflow (Sony Imageworks), where he cut his teeth on productions that are now Hollywood landmarks – Ghost Rider, Spider-Man 3, I Am Legend and Hancock among them. He then moved to Prana Studios, where he worked on Tron: Legacy , building a solid foundation in large-scale Hollywood productions that very few compositors get so early in their careers.
But it was his 15 years at Futureworks that truly defined him as a builder. He joined what was then a twenty member roto team in Chennai and helped grow it into a 200-artist full-service VFX facility. Along the way, his credits expanded to include Captain America: Civil War, The Martian, RRR, Pathaan, Kohrra, The Family Man, Fallout, and Dune: Prophecy , among many others. His work on the critically acclaimed Trial by Fire and HBO’s Emmy-winning final season of Westworld earned him features in Animation World Network and FX Guide .
One of his most distinctive contributions at Futureworks was the development of a bespoke 360-degree car-composite rig. It’s a custom nine-camera setup built to solve a problem with driving dialogue scenes. Traditional methods meant shooting multiple plates at different angles and stitching them together, often resulting in inconsistent lighting and reflections. Gouri recognised the flaw in the workflow and solved it by using Unreal Engine to design and refine the rig before building it out in aluminium. The result was a seamless 23,000-pixel image that captured the environment for accurate car-body reflections, consistent environmental lighting and a significantly refined and accurate compositing workflow.
Today, as a VFX Supervisor at BOT VFX - a role he stepped into in July 2025, Gouri guides the creative direction of projects, leads reviews, mentors artists and collaborates closely with production and clients to deliver outcomes that balance storytelling with technical precision. His first released project at BOT is Sugar: Season 2 on Apple TV+.
Guided by a belief that "everyone around us is faculty," Gouri fosters an open-learning culture where knowledge flows between veterans and newcomers alike. His curiosity goes beyond the studio — a cinephile, a lover of instrumental music and an Arduino tinkerer, he finds fresh sparks of inspiration on road trips and brings this experience all back into his work.
